I miss good music

There was a period in my life, which I miss dearly, and it may be the cause of my recent dissatisfaction with my situation. No matter what, when or how, if I had good music, I was ok.

What has happened? Where are the talented people?

the point?

Bands suck.

Your band? It probably sucks. Your friends can't play their instrument, they don't know the first thing about making music let alone playing an instrument yet for some reason you feel qualified enough to charge me ten dollars to watch your shitty band.

There are some exceptions. Some new music makes me delightfully happy but compared to the old days, this is pure shite.

There was a time when music was NEW. When it was fresh to me, never before heard. I experienced sounds and combinations of sounds I had never heard before. Glen Miller at one time was new music. Lagwagon was fresh. I still remember the first time I heard Dan McClintock sing, after a period of silence, "Been stricken sick...she could be the cure..." and thinking right then and there, "My goodness, he's an angel, what is this magnificent sound? It was new.

Nowadays? I've heard it all. I blame the radio station. I had access to more music than I ever had before and oh did I binge. I shot that shit into my veins for a year straight and now what? The sound of a pandeiro and surdo intro isn't new. I know what bass steel drums sound like. Another one of those sounds that blew my mind the first time I heard it.

Now what do I have? Nothing is new. They play top 40 at work. I've listened to enough Boomer to be a certifiable transplant from the fifties, just look at my glasses.

Nothing is new. Nothing impresses me. Dave Weckl is still awesome, yea, great, he's amazing but I've seen it. I've seen drum solos. I've seen guitar solos, sax solos, hell I've seen timpani solos with little metal plates strewn across the heads. Now I have nothing. Just old, boring music and nothing new to drive my ears crazy. I miss when Mighty Sparrow started blasting on Bart's car stereo and I flipped. THAT is what I miss. I miss hearing something I have never heard before.

Musicians...

Step the fuck up.
